Member of Parliament:
Rt. Hon. Huw Irranca-Davies, MP Rt. Hon. Huw Irranca-Davies, MP

Huw was elected to the parliamentary seat of Ogmore in the by-election of February 14th 2002, after the death of the veteran MP and Government Whip Sir Ray Powell.  Huw has held various government roles since his election – from Parliamentary Private Secretary, to Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State of Wales to his current position as the Minister for Marine and Natural Environment (a position he has held since October 2008) at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

In his time as an MP Huw has dealt with over 10,000 cases on behalf of his constituents on issues including benefits, jobs, local issues and miners’ health claims.  Huw holds regular advice surgeries right across the constituency and often runs “have your say” events, so that people can air their views; whilst his website is geared towards serving his constituents – Huw was one of the first ever MPs to have an “online surgery”- which has helped reach many people who would not ordinarily have attended a regular surgery event.

Interestingly, Huw didn’t start with the name Irranca-Davies, but was just plain old Davies.  When he married however his wife’s name was added.  Joanna - who he met while he was working in a sports centre and she was doing aerobics - was born into the Irranca family, a hard-working family of Italian stock who came to Wales in the 1950s.  Huw and Joanna have three boys of school age - all of whom have a passion for rugby!

After leaving Higher Education, Huw worked for local authorities in leisure management.  Later, he worked in private sector management, and also spent enjoyable years as a lecturer at Swansea Institute of Higher Education.

Welsh Assembly Member:
Janice Gregory, AM Janice Gregory, AM

"In my opinion the Ogmore constituency is certainly the best and one of the most diverse in Wales. To the north we have the traditional ex mining valley communities with all their culture and heritage but special challenges too and to the south we have communities that border the M4 corridor with different needs and priorities

"The establishment of the Assembly heralded a new form of governance for Wales. It has responsibility over key issues including; health, education, employment, transport, housing and the environment. From record investment in the NHS and schools to free bus travel for over 60s and free prescriptions we are developing strategies and implementing policies that are making a real difference to the every day lives of people in Wales.

"I have had the great honour, privilege and pleasure to serve as the Assembly Member for Ogmore since the inaugural Assembly elections in 1999.

"Currently, I Chair the Communities and Culture Committee having been Chair of the Social Justice and Regeneration Committee from 2003 - 2007. I have served on almost all the Assembly’s subject committee over the last 10 years.

"I am a member of USDAW and UNITE (the merged AMICUS & TGWU) trade unions, the Co-op Party and Fabian Society.

"As well as having a full time office in Pencoed I always try to make myself available to meet, speak to, write or email constituents who contact me about any issues, concerns or questions that they might have.

"I am well known throughout the constituency for supporting many organisations, I am also the proud Patron, President and Vice-President of a number of organisations and choirs."
